  1. ‘Moving’ is a new game – the farm is relocating!
Play ‘Moving’ with your child. Depending on the age of the child, you can introduce the theme of ‘moving’ in a playful way. A doll’s house moves, a Lego fire brigade moves to a new building, a whole farm moves. Through play, the child learns that everything stays the same when moving, except the original location. Picture books.
Talk openly about moving, explain, tell about new flat / place, reasons why, share positive feelings.
  2. Visits to flat / explore surroundings (pictures if too far away.). Pre-visits to new kindergarten, new school. Contact the teacher.
  3. Allow age-appropriate participation
Draw plans, play packing and unpacking (nothing is taken away, everything is back) Pack moving boxes yourself, the older the more co-determination, rent LeihBOXes for children. The little ones should pack their favourite things themselves. Clear instructions prevent misunderstandings.
  4. Organise childcare, accommodate small children on moving day (grandparents, childminder, known caregiver).
Always have a cuddly toy and provisions ready to hand!
  5. Furnish the children’s room first. Lamp, teddy, familiarity (same furniture as before), quick access to toys.
  6. Old friends (farewell party), new friends (=more friends), school/kindergarten (appointment, pre-visit), clubs, invitations, welcome culture, housewarming party.
  7. New flat, familiar rituals, structured daily routine, as before, security
